Germany’s high savings rate has persisted since the Hartz reforms in 2000s, with household savings above 10% for much of the past decade. @TomFairless reports for @WSJ.
Great charts on German savings, though article falls for the thrifty Germany fallacy as opposed to reality that Germany ran deficits in the 1990 until the Hartz drove down the labor share, driving up the savings rate. As you can see on charts.
