Does European ancestry predict which white voters back Trump?
Core argument: A 2016 Morning Consult poll found that white voters identifying as German or Italian were more likely to support Trump than those identifying as English, Irish, or Scottish, with German and Italian ancestry significant predictors of Trump support.
A 2016 poll by Morning Consult reveals that white voters identifying as German or Italian are more likely to support Trump compared to those identifying as English, Irish, or Scottish. German ancestry, claimed by 45m people (14% of the U.S. population), and Italian heritage were significant predictors of Trump support, with ethnic Germans showing a strong preference for the GOP. This trend aligns with historical Republican leanings in regions with high concentrations of ethnic Germans, such as the Midwest and parts of Texas. The poll highlights the diversity within the white vote, challenging the notion of a monolithic white voting bloc. Ethnic Germans' disapproval of President Obama's record and their traditional conservative values may contribute to their support for Trump, despite potential shifts due to controversial campaign events. The findings underscore the influence of European ancestry on political preferences in the U.S.

Ed Comment:BTW. This is why welfare fucks up the poor. Working part-time, you can consume more per person ($16.3k/yr), than a median worker working fulltime ($15.7k/yr=20.5/1.3). And the median worker is likely smarter and would earn and consume less if they weren’t. So where is the incentive to work if you can get welfare?
